Volunteers are welcome to help us keep up with the various aspects of living on this Island and experience a small taste of what it takes to live here.
West Bay A-Frame, Telephone Shed and Treehouse
Tidying up is a daily task everyone is welcome to pitch in and lend a hand. At West Bay beach, we have the PIYC club house AKA the “A-Frame” where racking the sand, tidying up the fire pit, and stacking palm fronds and coconuts, is a continual process down at the beach. West Bay is the main point of entry for the island so we do like to keep the beach and grounds looking cared for, all help is appreciated.
Percy Homestead
Living off-grid means being self-sufficient. Daily jobs involve managing the vegetable garden, weeding, planting, fertilising, fencing, wood collection, bee keeping, preserving, cooking and cleaning are all necessary jobs. All help is greatly appreciated, if you are interested please contact us on the day or in advance so we can plan ahead.
SUPPLIES: Island income and food production, is an ongoing process.
Volunteers who stay and help will be welcomed. We are working toward self sufficiency, and at this stage all visitors are required to bring their own supplies as limited fresh fruit and vegetables are available. There is no general store or supply vessel to replenish your supplies once on the Island so please think ahead about what you need.
The Homestead garden and fruit tree production depends upon seasons, water and people hours available to maintain and increase local food supplies. Our meat is hunted and processed on site. Accommodation arrangements can be made for those who want to extend their stay.
TRANSPORT: Volunteers will have to organise their own transport to the Island;- on a boat travelling north in the winter cruising season from Keppel Bay Marina (near Yeppoon) or south from Mackay Marina or Whitsundays after October . The chances are slim of getting a lift organised to precise dates, so it is only possible for flexible and adventurous people.
Email us at: percyisland@gmail.com or when traveling by boat try VHF Channel 73 on the Marine Radio. On arrival please make contact with the Homestead (4.5Km from the Bay), see the Contact page for the caretakers phone numbers.
